Lennoxville resident Benjamin Tracy was awarded the DIGIs prize for Best Documentary in the 2011 DIGIs Awards, presented this past weekend.
His seven-minute film, Immersion: A Student's Carte Blanche, was made as a school project for the International Baccalaureate programme at École secondaire du Phare in Sherbrooke. The film's purpose was to encourage students to consider the option of French immersion and highlighted the benefits of the program by interviewing several local immersion students. Benjamin, an immersion student himself, will graduate from du Phare at the end of June. He plans to attend Dawson College CEGEP next fall in the Cinema, Video and Communications program.
The DIGIs are national digital media awards for high school students. The 2011 DIGIs awards show was hosted by Stratford Central Secondary School in Stratford, Ontario, on Saturday, May 28, 2011. The annual awards are open to any high school student in Canada. The DIGIs (pronounced "di-gees") were created to highlight the achievements of high school students in all areas of digital media including film making, audio recording, design and more. There were 150 entries in 17 categories this year.
"The lines between technology and creativity are converging. Creativity in digital media in Canada needs to be encouraged and celebrated. That's what the DIGIs is all about." - Stewart Reynolds, Founder & Director of The DIGIs
