Sherbrooke to Quebec City by bike

We're not sure whose idea it was, but Sarah, Benjamin and Jennifer took up the challenge to bicycle from Sherbrooke to Quebec City last week, along La Route Verte.  They left on a Tuesday morning with the bicycles loaded and the forecast threatening showers.  The first leg took them through Bromptonville, Windsor and  Richmond en route to Danville, their first night stay.  With lots of hills, and several hours waiting out rain, they got to Richmond about 6:30 PM but decided to press on to Danville, where they arrived at Auberge Jeffery just as the sun set at 8:30 PM.  A long and challenging 72 km for the first day!

Wednesday's route took them along the old railway through Warwick, Victoriaville and Princeville to Plessiville where Rick met them by car at the Motel la Claire Fontaine. Although there were some showers, the 55 km of day two were completed at a much more reasonable 6:00 PM.

Their load lightened somewhat by Rick in the 'support vehicle,' Thursday turned out to be the longest day at 90 kms, passing through Lyster, Dosquet, St. Agapit and St.Redempteur before arriving at the ferry terminal in Levis, with the Chateau Frontenac beautifully displayed across the St. Lawrence river.  The Hotel l'Oiseliere in St. Nicolas was a wonderful treat after 220 kms of bike trail and a family-building experience.

Originally, Rick was to have pedaled with them, but a bicycle accident a few days before the trip cracked a rib, making biking all but impossible.  Angela, who was working at the municipal day camp, looked after Natania for the duration of the trip.  All three cyclists were quite pleased with the accomplishment and are looking forward to bigger challenges in the future - but less rain, please!
